High Octane Radios

With New Zealand race season in full swing, Icom New Zealand is proud to announce a renewed partnership with Team Kiwi Racing. For the second year running, Icom will be an official sponsor of Team Kiwi Racing and will be continuing to provide a customised digital communications solution for the 2014/2015 NZ V8 Touring Cars race season.

Prior to Icom Team Kiwi Racing were using an older analogue radio system and had constantly been encountering problems with their radios on and off the track. It is imperative to have reliable communications between drivers, pit crew, engineers and other staff on race day to ensure all departments worked in unison to maximise every opportunity to gain track position for the team. TKR Owner/Director, David John says that he "is very pleased with the clarity and dependability of Icom's digital radios. We will be using Icom exclusively to train our up-and-coming drivers as part of TKR's Development Academy as well. A high octane industry like this requires split second decisions to be made, which can win or lose you a race. It is important that a team invests in the best equipment possible to maximise their potential and that's Icom digital radios."

After a successful 2013/2014 race season partnered with Icom, David says "it was thanks to the high quality and reliability that Icom is renowned for that aided in the team's victorious season in the Porsche Carrera Cup. We are confident that with Icom's ongoing partnership we will see the same results in this year's New Zealand Motorsport arena." The 2013/2014 season left Team Kiwi Racing glowing with numerous highlights. One of their drivers won Rookie of the Year and throughout the season TKR achieved plenty of podium results; won races and won multiple rounds outright. At the biggest race meeting of the year, Bathurst, Mount Panorama, TKR impressed with 3 wins from 3 starts.

This put a stop to false allegations of the Doppler Effect which claimed channels would experience problems when users travelled at speed. When asked to comment on these allegations David said "Icom has never failed us. We have always received great performance from Icom’s products. Icom's digital radios have proved themselves to be totally reliable at all times and we have never encountered any disruptions even when going full speed around the Adelaide Clipsal 500 street circuit, or over the top of Mount Panorama, Bathurst." Thanks to the digital switchover, Icom radios are able to provide TKR uninterrupted, crystal clear coverage all over these tracks, even while going at speeds of up to 300km per hour!

Across the ditch, Icom Australia has also showcased the quality and reliability of Icom radios by partnering with Nissan Motorsport. They too believe that Icom products will ultimately help contribute to victory at Nissan Motorsport.
Come race day here in New Zealand, Team Kiwi Racing will be equipped with six IC-F4161DS's which are built rugged with solid construction. They meet military specifications and are able to withstand the harsh and demanding environment of a professional pit crew. Race strategy and plans remain a secret formula thanks to the built in encryption of the IC-F4161DS. With built in noise cancellation, the background noise is reduced so that a clear communications channel is available at all times and the drivers can focus on driving (and winning!) the race.

Icom NZ is the sole distributor of radios in New Zealand and backs their land mobile with a 5 year warranty. Icom radios promise to stand the test of time while proving to be durable and reliable. Be sure to keep up to date with the successful partnership of Icom and Team Kiwi Racing this race season via their face book page team kiwi racing or TKR's website www.teamkiwiracing.co.nz.
